The Community Health Access Resource Group (CHARG) provides a forum for community members and health professionals to connect and collaborate in order to deliver appropriate services that meet the needs of the diverse populations of Clark County.

Dear valued member of CHARG (Community Health Access Resource Group).

Since about 2014, CHARG has served an important role in our community, bringing health and social service representatives together on a regular basis to network and learn about one another’s services. Originally facilitated by Clark County Public Health employee, Long Vue, the group transitioned leadership to Chris Goodwin and a terrific panel of community partners around 2017. As you may have heard, Chris is transitioning this month to a new role in Public Health Preparedness and Response for Clark County.

The Future of CHARG

In anticipation of Chris’ transition, Clark County Public Health discussed the future of CHARG with the group’s leadership. Together, we recognized an opportunity to merge two groups that currently meet for similar purposes: CHARGE and a newly formed arm of the ACEs Action Alliance. This new group, called the Community Action Alliance Network (CAAN), will support a more robust gathering of members from both groups to learn about community services and support inclusive and collaborative cross-sector connections.

Because too many community meetings wear everyone thin, this new group will meet quarterly in January, March, June and September. The meeting time will still be 9 to 11 am on the second Wednesdays– maintaining the same time slot that CHARG used. Each meeting will spotlight a community agency or topic and will provide time to connect and share information with one another. The first meeting of the new CAAN group will take place on:

Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 9 to 11 am.

ACEs Action Alliance
At this time, I would also like to also extend an invitation to join the ACEs Action Alliance or Faith-Based Coffee, both groups dedicated to building a more resilient community. The ACEs Alliance is a multi-sector collaborative of public and private organizations and individuals who work together on four key functions. We:

1.      Educate and build awareness of ACEs and toxic stress, resilience, the Trauma-Informed pathway and community efforts;
2.      Facilitate opportunities for community mobilization;
3.      Promote and facilitate cross-sector convening, connection and collaboration;
4.      Collect, evaluate and share community indicators of ACEs, root causes, and resilience.

In 2021, the ACEs Action Alliance will hold learning collaborative meetings from 9 to 11 am on the second Wednesdays of February, May and October. This year, our focus is building inclusion and belonging through a series of workshops. I sincerely hope you will join us in our mission to build a stronger, more connected and resilient community for all.

Faith-Based Coffee
If your interest veers toward supporting children and families in central Vancouver, Faith-Based Coffee is a non-denominational bridge that joins faith partners, communities and local schools in Vancouver and Evergreen School Districts to share learning, meet the needs of children, families and neighborhoods, and address emergent needs as they arise. Members maintain the separation of church and state at meetings and when fulfilling needs by serving from the heart without promoting personal religious beliefs or engaging in religious recruitment. Faith Based Coffee will meet virtually in 2021, from 9 to 11 am on the fourth Thursdays in January, March and May.
The next meeting is:
  • Thursday, Jan. 28
  • 9 to 10:30 am
  • Topic: Foster Care
